Am I the only one who finds produce tends actually be cheaper at the grocery store than at the farmer's market?

There's a certain social cachet to shopping at the farmer's market: "Look at me! I am virtuously Buying Local and Saving The Earth!" I think the vendors at my farmers market have caught on to this and know they can charge more and it actually makes certain people feel even more smug about their purchases.

Smugness is priceless.

Here is my viewpoint on Farmer's Markets: I love the freshness, and for certain things, that rules: berries, asparagus, etc.
But I can get potatos cheaper at the store, so why buy them for three times as much at the FM.
Check it out this year, though. I'll bet the fruit, esp., isn't more expensive at the FM than at the Safeway. I don't know about Wegmans....I don't want to waste the gas to find out.

I find some fruits and vegetables are cheaper at farmer's markets, but I can't just assume. bell peppers and berries, for instance, are usually cheaper at farmer's market.

But I shopped at Trader Joe's for the first time today, and wow. Definitely marketed for self-satisfaction.
